B# Video Club

The B# Video Club at Fresno State plays an active role in exhibiting the happenings around Fresno State and also documenting helpful tools for the University.
Some of the projects the club is working on include producing training videos for the Deaf & Communicative Studies Department, recruitment videos for the Geology and Physical Therapy departments, and documenting various lectures and all of the University Lecture Series speakers.

“The club is aiding in convergence of the MCJ Department and the university,” said Bryan Harley, the club’s president. This is Harley’s fifth semester with the club, and third semester as president.

The first-ever Associated Students’ Presidential Debate was produced by the club, which required the participation of print journalism, broadcast journalism, electronic media and digital media students.

Mostly MCJ majors, specifically electronic media production students, make up the B# Video Club; however it is open to everyone interested in video, film or television.

“Even if you have little or no experience in TV or film, there are still ways you can participate and learn,” Harley said. “We do have a few business majors and one biology major in the club currently.”

The two studio projects that the club is working on both air on "The Fresno Channel," Comcast Cable Ch. 96. They control four hours worth of programming for this channel each week.
One show is a weekly live program that covers Fresno State sports called "The Bulldog Sports Report." It airs every Wednesday from 5:30 to 6 pm.

The other show highlights local arts and entertainment and is called "The Art Show." The club will tape four episodes this semester, and possibly more next semester. Studio projects are voluntary. MCJ production students work on these projects to get extra experience with equipment in the studio, which helps them greatly in their production classes.

There are also freelance projects for the club members. Harley said that these projects vary greatly and in many cases these projects include budgets, which allows the students to be paid for their work.

“This is a great opportunity for students; they get a little money and the experience of working in a real-world, paid situation,” Harley said. “I think the B# Video Club is an essential part of the MCJ Department for these reasons.”
