Alumni Profile: Laine Hendricks
Fresno State alum Laine Hendricks’ first
year on the job has run rather smoothly, but everyone runs into
a bump here and there. Given the task to direct two organization
representatives from Washington D.C. to dinner with her boss,
Hendricks accidentally sent them to Bobby Salazar’s “Express”
inside a gas station.
Even with this mishap, she is
currently the Central Valley Program Assistant for the National
Parks Conservation Association. Aspects of her job include
outreach to various communities about the parks, park issues,
special events, government relations and media relations and
many more.
Hendricks loves the travel
opportunities available to her. Visits to Yosemite and Sequoia
and Kings Canyon National Parks are regular and she has had the
chance to explore many other parks.
“The morale of the organization
is great,” Hendricks said. “The people are positive and there
are great networking opportunities.”
Hendricks graduated from Mass Communication
and Journalism Department of Fresno State in 2005 with her
emphasis in public relations and is currently working toward her
master’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from Fresno
State.
The Equestrian team pulled Hendricks to
Fresno State, but a Fresno State alumni professor at California
State University, Bakersfield, sealed the deal academically when
she informed Hendricks about the opportunities that would be
available to her in Fresno. Hendricks transferred from Cal State
Bakersfield in the fall of 2003.
Hendricks’ ideal job would be working in
corporate communications in a large metropolitan area or doing
public relations or marketing in the equestrian sports industry.
