Paul D. Adams
Chapter of the
Public
Relations Student Society of
America
The face of the Paul D. Adams
Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)
at Fresno State has been changing.
For the 2005-2006
school year, the PRSSA board, led by President Jamie Buckner,
21, was committed to providing a variety of valuable
opportunities and experiences for members.
Buckner, an MCJ major
with an emphasis in public relations and a minor in business
marketing had a vision to make a name from PRSSA in the
Fresno community and through
the help of active officers and members, succeeded.
In the Fall of 2005,
PRSSA created a successful Boosters Night fundraiser that was
both a wine tasting and silent auction event. The club was able
to send Buckner to the National PRSSA Conference in Miami Beach
where she was able to network and gain insight into ways of
leading the organization.
It was such a great
learning experience, Buckner said. I came back to Fresno with
so many ideas on how to keep PRSSA active and thriving.
The club hosted a
regional conference this past spring that brought PR
professionals from all different spectrums of the field together
to give stimulating and informative lectures on the business.
Professionals from sports, healthcare, and political PR were
among the speakers. Students from as far as Utah and San Jose
came to experience the event.
Members of the club
also toured three different PR agencies in
San Francisco on April 28.
It was so beneficial
to see people in the career so many of us are interested in,
Buckner said. I think a lot of us felt so much more prepared
for joining the real world, which is what the executive board
and I set out to accomplish this year. |
