Broadcast major Tony Flores
knows the importance of gaining hands-on experience in the
career he wishes to pursue. Flores, a junior, has already had
two internships and plans to start a third this summer.
Flores wants to be a sports anchor. As a freshman, he was the youngest intern
at the ABC 30 news station.
“I feel like I was
able to get ahead on my competition by networking and learning
from professionals in the field,” Flores said. “But since I was only a freshman I have learned so much since
then”
Flores will be interning at Channel 21 Univision now that he has completed
more MCJ classes and feels more equipped. He’s also fluent in
Spanish.
Last summer, Flores also interned at Sherwin Williams where he currently works in sales.
The company sent him to an assistant manager conference in
Dallas, Texas.
Flores dubbed Dr. Gary Rice as the most influential professor so far in his
college education.
“He really pushed me
in the right direction and taught me how to accept constructive
criticism,” Flores said. “I’m a better writer because of him.”
The idea of an MCJ
alumni chapter excited Flores. “This will give us an outlet to
talk to people who have been through the process of starting a
career in this field,” Flores said. |
