Using Microsoft Word, your first task is to create the content (text and any graphic images) for four projects.
Consider yourself a consultant to some group, organization, or business. You are to plan, design, and produce FIVE "deliverables" (there are five projects, but you can essentially transform and adapt material from one into the others). You may design materials for a student organization ( such as student government at CSU Fresno, the Forensics Program, a fraternity or sorority) or for some university organization, such as the Children's Center, the Theatre Department, Athletics, or whatever. You may select a business or governmental agency, or you may select a community organization. You may select a political candidate or political issue on the ballot for your project. Set real goals for your work that will be "valuable to your client."
This project can be designed to accomplish any goal you wish, but your "deliverables" are:
In completing each of these "deliverable" projects, I want you to demonstrate as much as you can that you have mastered a versatile range of each program's features and tools.
Research and preparation: Seek out your own information resources (existing print materials, interviews, etc.) and use your creativity. Don't forget the Internet; seek useful graphics and photographic images--download to a disk or use the copy/paste method to directly place in the Word, PowerPoint, and Dreamweaver documents. You can scan and edit pictures using in our lab. Do not skimp on the "homework" dimension of this assignment.
Quality: There are many approaches you can take to these projects. Take the assignments seriously and do your best. I am hopeful your organization could really use your materials. Take a "real life" approach to it. If you design something for the Department of Communication, you won't get a A unless your presentation actually recruits 800 new majors. (Just kidding.) Do a good job designing materials to achieve the objectives; also, consider this an opportunity to showcase your mastery of these computer resources.

Using Google Sites, your task is to design an original website (minimally, three linked and original webpages) for your client organization. You can "Create New Page" from within your current site to this Final Project Website--this website will be embedded within your COMM 165 webpage. You should have a website which meets a real need(s) of your organization. Your website should have a creating blending of headlines, text, and graphic images to fulfill the purpose of the website. There must be links to and from your homepage, and of course links among the pages comprising the website. You have include hyperlinks to other things on the Internet pertinent to the client website. In general, make this creative, beautiful, reflective of your best work--the world will see it. It is not just for a grade. My instructional objective is that you demonstrate that you've learned some of the mechanics of working with the Google Sites tools and can use a variety of features to make a functional and effective website.
When finished, be sure that there is a working link to your site on Cagle's COMM 165 Student Pages to provide access on the Internet. I want these finished and ready to as attachments on your Google Sites homepage not later than Monday December 13th, am.

To create the brochure in Word, you will be first need to select the number and type of columns for the brochure.
Next use File/Page Setup to select the appropriate orientation for your brochure. The brochure may be in any of the many formats brochures enable; e.g., a brochure is printed on both sides, and can be folded into two, three, or four panels. You can plan based on 8.5" x 11" paper, or you can create a brochure on 11" x 14" paper which gives you more space. Your brochure should use both sides of one page (at least).
Use a paper and pencil mock-up of your brochure before you begin to enter it in the computer. Why? Because once you have put stuff in various columns (which are panels in the brochure), it is hard to move it from one column to another. Based on this mock-up plan, insert the appropriate columns and you can begin entering headings, text, pictures, and so forth.
Save the brochure work in a file as you go!!! Be careful how you save it.
To create the newsletter in Word, follow a similar procedure; set the page orientation and the number of columns. Prepare what you want to put in the newsletter. I think you should aim for about two pages. Quality content is important.

For the PowerPoint presentation, set it up as a slideshow using one of the templates. Demonstrate your mastery of PowerPoint's versatile features. Put one graphic or picture on each page. At least 12 slides.

Using content and images from your PowerPoint, and other pictures and images and video clips if you can get them, create a small iMovie or Windows Media Video to convey the message in the video medium. Add transitions, music, etc.--make it impressive. Make a streaming video file [.mov or .wmv] file and be sure it is in the same folder as your 165 homepage index.htm file.

Please, before the final examination period begins, complete the projects:
Place the files (Word, PowerPoint, HTML, .mov/wmv, etc.) on your COMM 165 Google Sites webpage with working links on your these files as attachments. All prior work should have working links on your homepage as well.
Try to package and prepare your work in advance so I can quickly check you out. There will be time to complete or polish some things, but not much time, and virtually none for troubleshooting.
The main business in this final examination period will be checking to be sure all work is in the file and properly linked up.
After that, it is TGIO and have a nice Christmas and Happy New Year!
