Review for test 1

Test 1 will be on chapters 1 and 2 and will contain 4 problems (two problems will ask you to clearly show all 4 steps of problem solving; for the other two you have to show your work and provide a brief explanation/justification, but do not have to clearly show all 4 steps, e.g. you do not have to write out your plan in words). Review the following topics/problems:

Four steps of problem solving (page 2 in textbook).
What is expected or could be included in step 4, Looking back? (page 3)
Strategies of problem solving (page 3).
Areas of basic shapes (such as those needed in problem 7 on page 11)
Other problems (such as those on pages 4, 10, 11)
Solving linear equations (see e.g. problem 2 on page 10)
Fractions - concept, number line diagrams, other diagrams
Operations of fractions
Area model for multiplication (pages 17-18)
Representing one whole and fractions using pattern blocks (page 25)
Writing story problems for requested operations (problems 1, 8-12 on pages 30-31)
Various problems involving fractions (see exercises in chapters 1 and 2)
