Possible areas of continuation of the project in the future:
1. Focusing on strategic KPI
From the big picture to the short list. Determine the 5-7 KPI that play the most significant role in the profitability of S, and determine for each:
- exact formulation of metric
- the elements by which it is to be drilled down
- the required data to be collected
- the required process to produce the result
- the current level of performance
- the meaningful target associated with it
2. Performing competitive analysis
Interviewing the customers of S's competitors to determine:
- what factors led them to do business with those companies
- how satisfied they are doing business with those companies (critical success factors)
- what it takes for S to win over their business
3. Company-wide educational/cultural retreat
Teaching department managers the why/what/how of formulating realistic, workable KPI. This is preferable to one-on-one interaction in that:
- participants will interact and learn from one another
- there will be more time to interact with participants (several hours, not just 45 minutes)
- duplication will be avoided (repeating the same point to many people)
- there will be less distraction and interruption in a retreat environment than on the job
- cross-departmental impacts will come out more explicitly and accurately
