>In another intense game, Fresno State eliminates Boise State
with a seventh inning where everything went wrong for the Broncos.
Nicole Angene led off the inning with a ground ball to second base,
but the throw to first was dropped. Kaylan Pollard went in to pinch
run. After a Diane Runge pinch hit strike out, Rebecca Hall hit a
comebacker. Bronco pitcher Aubrey Zell's throw was on line to retire
Kaylan at second, but shortstop MacKenzie Whyte was in front of the
base when she took the throw for an E6. With the following batter
Brooke Ortiz at the plate, Kaylan advanced to third and Rebecca to
second on an 0-1 passed ball. Brooke battled Zell to a 2-2 count and
then fouled off three more pitches. The eighth pitch of the at-bat
went to the backstop, and Kaylan slid in to home safely for a walk-off
wild pitch win.
>With the Bulldogs down 2-0 and facing elimination in the fifth
inning, Demi Walker and Rebecca Hall singled with one out. They moved
to second and third when Brooke Ortiz slapped a ball to second base.
Senior shortstop Haley Gilleland then had the at-bat of the night,
an eight-pitch battle that went to a full count before she sent a
line drive to left. The ball went off the tip of the glove of left
fielder Holly Bourke for a 2-RBI double to knot the score at 2.
>Michelle Moses started the game in the circle for the Bulldogs
and pitched 4-1/3 innings. She gave up a second inning solo home run
to Devon Bridges, and another run in the fifth inning on a lead off
double to Bronco 3B Kelly Sweeney and an RBI single to Tazz Weatherly.
After the Weatherly single, Mackenzie Oakes came on in relief. Mack
shut down the Broncos the rest of the way, retiring eight of the nine
batters to face her. She picked up her second win of the day to improve
to 18-5 on the season.
