Biography

Hovannes Kulhandjian is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at California State University, Fresno (Fresno State). Before joining Fresno State he was an Associate Research Engineer in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northeastern University. He was working on the development of the Northeastern University Marine Observatory NETwork (NU MONET).

He received his B.S. degree in Electronics Engineering with high honors (magna cum laude) from the American University in Cairo (AUC) in 2008, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2010 and 2014, respectively. During his Ph.D. training he was working in the Wireless Networks and Embedded Systems (WiNES) Laboratory at the State University of New York at Buffalo under the guidance of Prof. Tommaso Melodia.

His current research interests are in wireless communications, applied machine learning, intelligent transportation systems, precision agriculture, underwater acoustic communications, visible light communications, brain computer interfaces, physical layer security, robotics and artificial intelligence. He is an IEEE Senior Member and has authored, co-authored several dozen peer reviewed journals, technical reports, and conference papers.

Dr. Kulhandjian's research at Fresno State is sponsored by Department of Defense (DOD) Research and Education Program, Research Alliance Seed Grant Program of NSF-ADVANCE Partnership Grant, Claude C. Laval Award for Innovative Technology and Research, CSU-WATER Faculty Research Incentive and Fresno State Transportation Institute (FSTI) SB1 Research Grant 6 years in a row.

He served as a Guest Editor for IEEE Access Special Section Journal, Session Co-Chair for IEEE UComms 2020 and 2018 Conferences, Publicity Co-Chair for IEEE BlackSeaCom Conference 2021. He also serves as a member of Technical Program Committee (TCP) for ACM and IEEE Conferences such as GLOBECOM 2023, ICC 2018, WiMob 2018, WD 2020, ICC 2016, WUWNet 2021 and VTC Fall 2015. He is a recipient of the Outstanding Reviewer Award from ELSEVIER Ad Hoc Networks and ELSEVIER Computer Networks.
