- The Homework List is now posted, but it contains only the problems due next week. A more complete homework list will be coming soon.
- I am still working to get everyone's WeBWorK accounts up and running. Please check back soon. I will send email to everyone when it is available.
- As announced in class, our first quiz will be next Friday (January 26), covering the material on the homework due that day. Please see me early and often with your questions!

- A more complete Homework List is now posted. In particular, the assignments due next week are set. For subsequent weeks, however, it is still a work in progress. So don't panic if the paper assignments look long -- I will very likely cut some problems. I will also be adding some WeBWorK assignments. If you print out the homework list, be advised that it will be out of date soon.
- Next week's quiz will cover the sections from the homework (see above). That is, sections 2-E through 3-A of Ebersole, sections 1.1 through 1.3 of Stewart, and Worksheet W1. You should know how to
- Understand and graph piecewise functions, including absolute value functions
- Recognize and be able to graph all the special functions discussed in class
- Recognize and be able to graph transformations of graphs (vertical and/or horizontal shifts, reflections, and dilations/compressions)
- Combine two functions to get a new function by adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing or composing ("f of g of x")

- The Homework List has been updated. In particular, the assignments due next week are set.
- Next week's quiz will cover the sections from the homework (see above). That is, Chapter 13 of Ebersole and section 1.5 of Stewart.
- It is not too early to begin thinking about our first MIDTERM, which is coming up in two weeks (February 16). Tentatively, it will cover chapters 2, 13, and 14 of Ebersole and sections 1.1 through 1.5 of Stewart (except 1.4). Next week I will announce in class the sections to be covered.

- A collection of practice problems for next week's midterm is now available above (under the red Exams and Practice Exams heading). Solutions will be available soon. You are urged to complete them under test conditions as much as possible (no notes, no calculator, no interruptions) in order to give yourself a good "dress rehearsal."
- Quiz solutions for the first three quizzes should be available above soon. Watch this space!
- 2/12
- The solutions to the practice problems are now available above. It is a good idea to complete the practice problems to the best of your ability first, before looking at the solutions. Then check your answers and go over anything you missed or did not know how to do. Please do this as soon as possible so you have a chance to practice more and to get help from me and/or your peers well before the exam.
- A reminder that our problem session this week will be longer to give us extra time to go over problems before the test. It will start at 2:05pm in EE 180 (our regular classroom), and then move to EE 108 when the next class comes in at 2:50, ending at 3:30pm. This is a time and location change from that printed on the syllabus! It will be beneficial to you and to everyone else if you have thoroughly gone over the solutions to the practice problems before this session (see above). I will be happy to answer any questions that are asked; however, we will have time for many more questions if everyone is asking questions like, "In your solutions, on #3, I get all the steps except this part...", rather than, "I didn't get #3. No, I haven't tried to read your solutions."
- We have gone over a lot of difficult material in this course so far. You have all worked very hard and learned a lot. I feel that with continued study and practice everyone in our class is capable of doing well on this exam. I will be rooting for all of you! Good luck!

- As I mentioned in my email, WeBWorK is designed to begin Daylight Savings Time in April. So for the next three weeks, the system will say that the assignments are due at 10:30pm PST, which translates to 11:30pm PDT. This means that the assignments are due at the NEW 11:30 time. Please contact me if you have any questions about when the assignments are due.

- The week after our midterm is a short week, as Friday, March 30 is a holiday. Consequently, all homework for that week will be due on Wednesday, March 28. Please see the Homework List for details.
