Basically, Kevin did most of the instruments, including drums on a couple of tracks. That is why I have Bill and Dan with with "some" credit. They contributed on a couple tracks so I wanted to give them credit since they also helped Kevin produce the album.
Kevin Gilbert first made his major break into the music biz towards the late eighties after winning a Yamaha competition with his band, Giraffe. Kevin and band members J. Scott Smith, Stan Cotey, Michael Abowd, and Chris Beveridge went on to record two albums entitled Power of Suggestion & View from Here which were released in very limited supply and are still hard to come by.
Kevin eventually hooked up with producer Patrick Leonard whom he had originally met during the time frame of the Yamaha competition. Patrick was a judge at the competition and he heard Giraffe and really liked Kevin's voice. Therefore, they collaborated in 1990 to record the first and last album under the band name Toy Matinee. Kevin & Patrick went their separate ways because of musical differences.
In 1995, Kevin Gilbert's solo debut was different from Toy Matinee, yet alike on some tracks. The ballads (such as "Tears of Audrey" and "Tea For One")bring you back to the Toy Matinee days. But, most of his tunes would be classified as progressive pop/rock. Kevin really knows his instruments considering that he played just about all of the instruments on his album. That shows the true talent that this man had. But as some people say, "all good things must come to an end".
Sadly, Kevin Gilbert was found dead on May 17, 1996. He will be sorely missed. BUT, his music will last forever. I will see to that with these web pages. ;-) For those that are interested, I've set up a memorial page in dedication to Kevin Gilbert and to share my experience with the loss of my father to help Kevin's friends, fans & loved ones try to cope with their loss. There is also information about contributing to Kevin's memorial fund for those that are interested.
I still have some songs to put up in Real Audio so bear with me on this page....:-)
